Flavor Descriptions
FUDGEY CHOCOLATE RIDICULOUSNESS
I don't think you understand what a big deal this cake is.
There is so much bad chocolate cake in the world, and this is the cake to atone for that. This is the chocolate cake for people who don't like chocolate cake. Or, should I say, THINK they don't.
I present to you the result of a 5-year quest for the perfect chocolate cake recipe: The cake layers are super moist, with a dense, fudge-like texture with a deep, bittersweet flavor. I pair it with a slightly tangy semi-sweet chocolate frosting. This is a serious, grown-up chocolate cake; not cloyingly sweet, but still capital-C Chocolatey.
CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER CRUNCH
Okay, ready? So I took those chocolate cake layers described above, but this time I dressed 'em up with peanut butter mascarpone frosting, and even snuck some chocolate ganache and home made peanut brittle in between the layers. ...I hear that uncooked rice is a pretty good way to absorb the drool on your keyboard.
MEXICAN CHILI CHOCOLATE
This is what happens when I make my favorite chocolate cake recipe, but I dump in a whole lot of chipotle chili and cinnamon. For those of you who like a little heat with your sweet.
CHOCOLATE RASPBERRY
Dark chocolate cake layers accented with raspberry syrup, alternating with chocolate raspberry ganache filling and fresh blackberries. Frosted with white chocolate whipped cream, and garnished with fresh raspberries.
This is cake is definitely not delicious at all; the only reason to consume it is for the anti-oxidant content. Pure health food. Keep telling yourself that...
DOUBLE CHOCOLATE MOCHA
In this cake, white and dark chocolate get equal love: Mocha cake layers alternate with dark chocolate ganache and white chocolate whipped cream. Excellent garnished with fresh berries! The cake layers are moist, with a sophisticated, fine crumb. Pairs well with cocktail dresses and general swankiness.
WHITE CHOCOLATE WONDERLAND
For the white chocolate lover: White chocolate cake layers frosted with white chocolate whipped cream. Even better with fresh seasonal fruit between the layers! On a hot summer night, right out of the fridge, this is so perfectly refreshing.
TIRAMISU
Did you know that "tira mi su" literally translates to "pick me up" in Italian? And that's exactly what this cake will do. Tender white cake layers are drenched in coffee syrup, and layered with chocolate shavings and marsala-infused cream cheese frosting. All the flavors of the classic Italian dessert, just... cakier.
CLASSIC BANANA
Moist, very banana-ny cake layers alternate with cream cheese frosting and fresh banana slices. Walnuts optional. Yeah, that's right, I said "banana-ny" because this cake is so banana-ny that real words would not suffice!
This is the essential, no-frills banana cake. But you know me, I like my cakes with frills. Which is why I invented...
BANANA COCONUT COLADA
Banana-pineapple cake layers accented with pineapple juice, alternating with fresh mango folded into coconut cream cheese frosting. Basically, it's a cake that REALLY wants to be fruit smoothie. Optional: chopped macadamia nuts pressed onto the sides.
THE ELVIS: BANANA PEANUT BUTTER
Inspired by Elvis's favorite sandwich: Banana cake layers sandwich peanut butter mascarpone frosting and slices of fresh banana.
This cake could be called, "The Sarah," because if there's anyone who likes bananas and peanut butter even more than Elvis did, it's ME.
"TASTES LIKE THANKSGIVING" MOLASSES SPICE
This is my go-to cake for Thanksgiving dessert. The cake layers incorporate pumpkin butter, dried cranberries, walnuts, molasses, and spices. It gets frosted with molasses cream cheese, and topped off with a drizzle of caramel and cranberries to garnish.
I could call this cake the pumpkin-molasses-caramel-spice-walnut-cranberry cake, but saying it's "Thanksgiving flavored" seems so much more... efficient.
CLASSIC CARROT
An old-fashioned carrot cake with a classic cream cheese frosting. Simple, moist, cinnamon-spicey, and delicious - because some things need not be messed with.
CARROT MAPLE CRUNCH
My favorite carrot cake, plus MAPLE EVERYWHERE. I mix maple into the cream cheese frosting, and pack homemade maple walnut candy between the layers for some extra crunch factor. A cake that's thoroughly VERMONT-ified, in case you should need such a thing.
TROPICAL CARROT CAKE
Okay, this might just be a carrot version of my Banana Colada Cake; I took my carrot cake and threw in every delicious tropical thing I could think of. Especially pineapple - a crap-load of pineapple. Excellent garnished with macadamia nuts and intricately cut fresh fruit.
LIME IN THE COCONUT CAKE
Coconut lovers will love this. Wait, even coconut HATERS will love this! (Seriously, I've dared a few of them to try it; they usually go for seconds.)
SO. We have coconut cake layers accented with coconut rum, and alternating with ginger-lime curd and coconut cream cheese frosting. Yet another tropical ensemble that takes well to a coating of macadamia nuts. My former boss once called this “a macadamia nut cobblestone road to heaven.”
ORANGE CARAMEL CAKE
This unusual flavor combination is must-try: orange and caramel were just MADE for each other!
Fluffy white cake layers are drenched in orange-caramel, and alternate with orange curd and orange-caramel cream cheese frosting. Even better topped with fresh fruit. A creamy and refreshing treat, like a creamsicle gone all FANCY-like.
SUMMERTIME LEMON
So honestly, I haven't figured this cake out yet. I have an outstanding recipe for lemon cake - one that's light, moist, and distinctively lemoney - but I haven't figured out the perfect frosting pairing. Is it best with lemon curd and fresh strawberries between the layers? Should there be some white chocolate involved?
These are my favorite kinds of problems to solve, so please please PLEASE ask me for a lemon cake.
SUMMERTIME LIME
Just when you were wondering what cake would go with your mojito. A moist, tender lime cake, with lime cream cheese frosting. So summery! So tangy! So... preventing of scurvy!
